Dhaulagiri. A story of rescue

In this book, Sito Carcavilla narrates the accident that the mountaineer Carlos Soria suffered on May 17, 2023, when he fractured his tibia and fibula at 7,700 m altitude on his thirteenth attempt to summit Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), a rescue in which Sito was a key part and which would test his own endurance and that of the people who participated in it.

At the same time, Sito traces the history of the mountain itself – the seventh highest on Earth – on whose walls and edges impossible routes were opened that have never been repeated, and where incredible stories of extreme mountaineering, survival and tragedy took place.

Traveling from Dhaulagiri to the accident and vice versa, this book intertwines the stories of the mountain with the decisions that were made during the rescue and how they influenced each other, connecting current Himalayan mountaineering with characters and episodes mythical mountaineers.

A book to learn about a beautiful mountain and a true story of survival, overcoming, friendship and generosity.
